The Field Pack is modeled after the classic backpack and is designed to encourage users to take their Hobonichi Techo around with them everywhere, like researchers who take field notes on-site. The suede diamond (nicknamed a “pig nose” in Japanese) is the part of a backpack usually designed for carabiners to attach things such as ski poles and hiking equipment such as ice axes. This patch is attached to the Field Pack cover in the spirit of bringing it with you anywhere you go.

Also similar to a backpack, the top of the cover includes a hook for whatever you need it for, including hanging it up. There’s also a key hook hidden inside the mesh pocket for safe-keeping, and deep pockets long enough to fit pens. All the devices in the Field Pack are designed to allow full customization.

The inside mesh pocket of the Blue cover is a vivid red, as is one of the bookmarks to provide a bright accent.

The inside of the Red cover is a slightly more subdued red, with a beige mesh pocket and bookmark.

This is the Camouflage cover, which comes in the larger A5 size and fits the Japanese-only Hobonichi “Cousin” Techo. This cover has slightly more pockets, a deep brown interior, and an olive green mesh pocket.

The Camouflage cover will not fit the English Hobonichi Planner, but like the other covers, can be used without a planner.

Material is Strong and Grime-Resistant Use the Heck Out of It

Close-ups of each material

The Blue and Red Field Pack covers use bright-colored, water-resistant material by Italian company Para. The material, said to be used in some tents, is stronger than it looks and hard to soil.

The Camouflage cover uses Cordura(R), a special fabric seven times stronger than nylon. The material is used in outdoor and sporting goods across the world for its durability against abrasion, tearing, and wearing down.

The functional inner mesh pockets are also made with a specially-designed fabric to complement the outdoor look of the cover.

We Filled Them Up The “box shape” allows vast storage

We gave the Field Pack cover a test run to see how much it could hold. The materials and deep thickness of the cover allow it to retain an attractive shape even when stuffed full. The line of Zippers cases for the Hobonichi Techo can all store a great deal of items, but the Field Pack is designed to take the cake; it’s slightly larger than even the other Zippers covers. There’s also some moderate give to the fabric, so it’s stretchy enough to zip easily shut when full.

This cover works great not only as a planner cover, but as an all-purpose storage bag.

Filling up the case still leaves it in a cute box shape. The above case is packed full, but it retains a neat, orderly shape.

These are all the things that fit into the cover. You can also use this cover to fit all of the things you use on a daily basis, or even a hiking pack when traveling or working outdoors.
