Many regions in Japan have their own unique fabrics, with characteristics based on the area’s climate and culture. These pouches and bags are made with these special textiles.
The thick threads used in Iwate Home Spun are deliberately left with an uneven thickness to recreate their original hand-spun style. The threads are dyed in a variety of colors, such as red and green. This leaves the thin, dense sections of thread with a deep color, and the thick sections of thread with a lighter color. Weaving all these together creates a tweed material with a complex color scheme. This textile has been used to create a zip-up pouch.
The textured cotton-flax fabric of Koyaguchi Pile is covered in images of green plants that seem to grow right off the cover. The woven fabric is made at the foot of Mt. Koyasan in Wakayama Prefecture. The design is actually the result of decades of work from a local business that designs patterns for pile fabrics. This beautiful textile has been used to create a zip-up pouch and a magnet-sealed coin pouch.
