This stuffed bear was produced in a collaboration between Hobonichi and the German plush toy maker Steiff, spurred by the popularity of the original Misunderstood Bear, the teddy bear of Hobonichi.

This unique bear, while keeping its characteristic sharp claws and deadly fangs, was newly designed with the luxurious touch of Steiff. This bear is based on a classic teddy bear originally created at the beginning of 1900, making it abound with classic details such as short fur, warm brownish black in color, densely packed, firm texture, and relatively short limbs in proportion to the body. It has a hump on its back below the neck, a signature of Steiff teddy bears.

Steiff teddy bears use high quality yarn called mohair, made from the hair of the Angora goat. The velvety texture, indulgently soft to the touch, makes this bear a true luxury. The hands, legs, and neck can be manipulated into striking a pose of your liking. The fabric is made by venerable fabric maker Steiff Schulte, which has over a hundred year of history, in common with Steiff.

The button and tag attached to the left ear of the bear together make the “Button in Ear,” a trademark of Steiff products. The tag designates that the product has passed the maker’s strict quality standards before being imported into Japan from Germany. The red letters on the white tag indicate that this is a limited edition product. The tag also details on the back, the item number, year of production, and serial number of each item.

Misunderstood Bear comes wearing a black sanitary mask that covers its mouth so as to avoid frightening his friends.
