HOBONICHI TECHO 2020

Day-Free 2020 A5 SizeA5 Size / January Start

This combination of a monthly calendar and blank notebook is called the Day-Free, and it’s a brand-new addition to the Hobonichi Techo family this year.

The Day-Free Cousin Size is an A5 size techo that’s split into two main parts: monthly calendars and a graph-paper notebook. The book fits nicely into covers designed for the standard Hobonichi Techo Cousin.

Because the book is half the size of the full-year Cousin, it’s also light and portable.

The monthly calendar is the same calendar you’ll find in the standard Cousin book, designed with graph paper to make it easy to use. The 2020 edition will contain entries for December 2019 through March 2021.

The blank graph paper notebook contains a total of 171 pages and is comprised of 3.7 mm squares.

You can fill in as much as you want at a time without feeling constricted to dates. Keep a journal, draw a picture or graph, paste in ticket stubs, scribble on the pages, and fill the pages with capricious whims or meticulous plans — it’s all up to you.

The Day-Free blank notebook section includes the Hobonichi Techo’s characteristic daily quotes in Japanese.

The bottom right of the notebook pages contain a charming flipbook illustrated by Dwarf Studios animator Tsuneo Goda, who worked on NHK’s Domo-kun and Komaneko.

The Day-Free includes other sections from the standard daily techo book: the yearly calendar, the yearly index page, and the informational pages in the back of the book. (The A5-size Day-Free does not contain the weekly calendar like its Cousin counterpart)

(See the Exploring Each Type page for more details.)

When you purchase this book in the Hobonichi Techo Official Store, the book comes with two free 2020 Hobonichi Store Exclusives: Small Hobonichi Hyakunin-isshu: a deck of 100 illustrated karuta cards containing traditional Japanese poems and a special Hobonichi Techo 3-Color Jetstream ballpoint pen. (The 2020 edition has a red pen body.)
    *The ballpoint pen has ended.

Although you can use the book on its own, you can pair it with a cover of your choice from our large selection of convenient A5 size Hobonichi Techo covers.

    Please Read Before You Buy

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.

Test fountain pens before regular use

The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.
