Karel CapekDashenkaA6 Size (fits Planner and Original)
In 1933, Czech author Karel Capek (1890-1938) wrote a book about the adventures of a puppy, Dashenka: The Story of a Puppy. The precious and heartwarming illustrations in the book have been recreated on this techo cover.
A journalist by trade, Karel Capek was active across a variety of genres, including plays, novels, essays, travel books, children’s books and newspaper columns. His major works, such as The Gardener’s Year, are beloved by readers to this day, over 80 years after his death.
In the book the mischievous adventures of Dashenka, born to Capek’s fox terrier Iris, are lovingly recounted, with illustrations by Capek himself. The simple lineart of the illustrations perfectly depicts the puppy’s innocent expression and childlike behavior.
The front of the techo cover is based on the book’s 1971 printing, featuring drawings of Dashenka in various poses, the book title in the original Czech, and Capek’s name. The cover material is made with a soft canvas that’s pleasant to the touch.
The back of the techo cover shows Dashenka biting at someone’s legs and looking rather proud. Written in Czech is the playful phrase “attacking our feet.” Look inside the cover’s back pocket and you’ll see Dashenka yawn back at you.
The bookmark charms are black circles just like Dashenka’s eyes.

- Color and print may vary slightly
This material is first printed or dyed and then later sewn onto the cover. While colors are designed to be consistent, there may be uneven coloring or slight shade variances between covers. This may also happen across a single cover, such as a pocket compared to the rest of the cover. In addition, on rare occasions, there may be small black or white dots visible on the print. This is an unavoidable aspect of the manufacturing process.
- Cover may contain variations in stitching or loose lining
When this cover is open flat, exterior stitching areas may appear puckered and lining material may be loose.
- Silk printed image may peel off over time
The silk print may eventually peel or come off with daily use. If using a Cover on Cover, the silk print may stick to the plastic and eventually come off with it from the constant contact.
- Coloring may stain other objects
The dye in the cover may stain other objects if it rubs against or sticks to them, especially if the cover is wet from water or sweat from your hands. Please store with care.
- Pen holders are rigid at first
The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.
- Pen holder fits pens up to 13.5 mm wide
The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2 mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free Hobonichi Store Exclusive. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53”) in diameter.
- Avoid storing in hot and humid places
Please avoid storing your product in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower quality and color stains.
