Ryushi Makino curates Japan’s highest-quality textiles for the top brands across the world in fashion and sports. For four years his famous “Makino Collection” series was featured in popular Hobonichi Techo covers, from 2009 to 2012.
The collection returns in the 2020 lineup, with covers featuring textiles recommended by Makino.
Look closely and you’ll see a wavy texture on the surface of this cover. This is called seersucker, a weaving method popular for clothes. Seersucker weaves together both shrunken and unshrunken threads, giving it a complex texture. The silver threads in the pattern also give off a shine that gives the cover its special appeal. The line variation in this pattern is a special feature unique to seersucker fabrics.
The complex color scheme and sparkling silver threads make this a playful cover that also exudes a sense of fashion.

The patterned fabric has not been aligned to a specific layout, so the placement of each design will vary by product. The product will not be an exact replica of the one in the product photographs.
- Cover may contain variations in stitching or loose lining
When this cover is open flat, exterior stitching areas may appear puckered and lining material may be loose.
- Design may be warped and material may have bumps
This is a natural property of seersucker fabric, so please enjoy this as part of the overall design.
- Not for use with Cover on Cover
This cover uses thicker materials than usual, so it may not fit. Forcing it into a Cover on Cover may damage the products.
- Pen holders are rigid at first
The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.
- No outer pocket
This cover does not contain an outer pocket.
- Pen holder fits pens up to 13.5 mm wide
The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2 mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free Hobonichi Store Exclusive. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53”) in diameter.
- Avoid storing in hot and humid places
Please avoid storing your product in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower quality and color stains.
