Hobonichi Techo Day-Free 2021 A6 SizeA6 Size / January Start

The Day-Free Original Size is an A6 size monthly techo that was introduced in the 2020 edition lineup. It’s split into two main parts: monthly calendars and a graph-paper notebook. The book fits nicely into covers designed for the standard Hobonichi Techo Original.

Because the book is half the size of the full-year Original, it’s also light and portable.

The monthly calendar is the same calendar you’ll find in the standard Original book, designed with graph paper to make it easy to use. The 2021 edition will contain entries for December 2020 through March 2022.

The blank graph paper notebook contains a total of 171 pages and is comprised of 3.7 mm squares.

(In response to customer feedback, the 2021 edition contains page numbers on the corner of the pages. The “Secret Line” is also slightly shifted to the left.)

You can fill in as much as you want at a time without feeling constricted to dates. Keep a journal, draw a picture or graph, paste in ticket stubs, scribble on the pages, and fill the pages with capricious whims or meticulous plans — it’s all up to you.

The Day-Free blank notebook section includes the Hobonichi Techo’s characteristic daily quotes in Japanese.

There is also a flipbook comic on the bottom right page of each spread. The creator, Aki Kondo, created the hit 2020 edition Spring techo cover, Dancing Fox. She redrew it for us in this flipbook, with the fox shaking its fluffy tail and doing a cute dance. Each illustration in the flipbook is lovely in and of itself, so you can enjoy the art in each spread.

The Day-Free includes other sections from the standard daily techo book: the yearly calendar, the yearly index page, and the informational pages in the back of the book.

(See the Exploring Each Type page for more details.)

Although you can use the book on its own, you can pair it with a cover of your choice from our large selection of convenient A6 size Hobonichi Techo covers.

You can also try out one of our covers that are designed to give the Day-Free a snug fit: BS Lite (Black), BS Lite (Blue), and BS Lite (Red).

Test fountain pens before regular use

The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.
