Hiroshi HatanoWhy Are You Asking Me? / Photography Collection

Two of photographer Hiroshi Hatano’s books will be available for purchase through the Hobonichi Techo Official Website.

Why Are You Asking Me? is a book that is originally a popular series on the website Cakes. “I want to give birth to a child with someone who already holds a family,” “I want to go on a different path as to what my parents want me to,” “I want to be help of my daughter who is tired of being bullied and wants to die,” “I don’t know what to say to my father who has cancer,” “I’m thinking of suicide,” “I abuse my children”... Hatano answers each question that are hard to find an answer with care. Hatano’s truthful words, often mixed with humour, enlighten us with findings we’d never thought of.

Photography Collection features three pieces that represent Hatano’s Career. “Marine Ruins” shows features on the seas of Japan, and was taken across the span of 5 years during his twenties when travelling across Japan. This has received the Nikon Juna 21 prize, known for being a gateway to success for young photographers, in 2010. ”Being thankful for each meal" are a collection of photographs taken by Hatano as a hunter. They span from 2012, two years after Hatano released “Marine Ruins” up to February 2018, when Hatano found out about his illness and decided to throw away his rifle used for hunting. His exhibition at a gallery in Tokyo in April 2018 was talked about all over social media, so much so that they decided to extend it. “Kind Photos” are photographs of Hatano’s son, Yu, taken lovingly. The show the day-to-day lives of father-and-son from when Yu was born up to 2019. His exhibition in November 2018, held in the Ginza Sony Imaging Gallery, marked a exceptional number of visitors.
