Paper SeriesBlack GinghamHON / A5 Size / Daily / Jan start / Mon start

  • 2024 New

The Paper Series uses unique paper by specialized paper trading company Takeo.

This book may seem like an ordinary black techo, but when you look closely, you will find the entire surface covered with a plaid pattern. The book is made of Takeo’s “Gingham GA,” a paper embossed with plaids reminiscent of gingham. You can see the gingham pattern from different angles of light. Although it’s embossed, it feels smooth to the touch.

The year 2024 shines elegantly, foil-pressed in silver.

Please note that the cover of this HON book is thinner and softer than the other HON books since it is made by cutting off the sides of the cover instead of wrapping the cover material around the cardboard. It does not have a bookmark.

The low-key pattern is perfect for users looking for a simple yet unique design. This Weeks book will blend in at work with a charm that only you would notice.

The contents are the same as the Hobonichi Techo Cousin book. The HON A5 size includes weekly pages which track a week in each two-page spread for easy planning and contain a handy time schedule.

The bookbinding on the HON has thread-stitch binding similar to the Hobonichi Techo Cousin, so it opens 180 degrees onto the table. It stays flat even if you don’t hold it down.

The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River S paper. The paper has supported the Hobonichi Techo for over 20 years with its special characteristics, but it’ll be undergoing an overhaul starting with the 2024 edition techos. The paper is more resistant to bleed through, lighter despite being almost the same thickness, and has a crisper surface by adjusting the fibers of the paper.

The back of the book has informational pages, including An Interview with Myself, Seasonal Sweets to Make at Home, and Caring for Your Eyes.

As a special exclusive only for the HON, this techo comes with a pencil board. The board is A5 size and clear, with 5mm grid lines printed across it. There are measurements printed along one side in 1mm increments, which allow for use as a ruler. This is also a new type of pencil board, as it has a pen holder attached to it where users can store pens by their clips.

The Hobonichi Techo HON comes in either Japanese or English. If you love this cover, then you can pick out which language you’d like in that book.

Nuanced basics

Since we only had the “White Line” series with a Weeks book in black, we decided to create black Weeks books for the other series. We wanted something simple that can be used casually; by using this paper that is not plain black but has a gingham nuance that comes to life in the light, we created something you can use for both business and informal occasions.

We also have this “Black Gingham” design for the HON lineup. Instead of wrapping the pasteboard in the usual style, this HON is made by attaching a material of the same size to the pasteboard, which makes the corners of the book and the cover match. This HON can be used at your pleasure, just like the Hobonichi Techo Planner Book.

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.

Test fountain pens before regular use

The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River / Tomoe River S paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.

Characteristics of materials and product design may result in white spots on the edges and corners of the front and back.

About the included pencil board

The pen hook on the pencil board can hold a pen by its clip.
