This leather design is specially designed to fit snugly around your Hobonichi Techo book while keeping it slim and comfortably portable. It does not contain butterfly stopper pen holders, and pockets are kept to a bare minimum.

The 2024 edition of Taut is made of leather named “Stone,” tanned by “Nuova Albora,” a tannery in Pisa, Italy. It is a high-quality cover with a deep color resembling an aromatic Bordeaux wine.

“Stone” is made from fine raw hides from France and Germany and tanned with 100% vegetable tannin, resulting in a hard finish. The leather is colored in two stages; a light Bordeaux color is evenly applied to the leather with a metal roller machine, and after fixing the color, black paint is sprayed over the top and further polished. The polishing removes a portion of the last layer of black paint and adds an antique atmosphere of shading, unevenness, and brilliance to the surface. The longer it is used, the more the color will blend with the base Bordeaux color with depth and beauty.

Slim cuts into the leather interior allow it to hold cards the size of a credit card or business card. The pen hook on the right side is designed to hold a pen by its clip.

The cover contains a small, simply designed bookmark made of the same leather as the cover. The bookmark is debossed with the Hobonichi logo.

Each cover has its own unique take on the texture and character.

*In the Hobonichi Techo 2024 lineup, the Cousin book is available as the Japanese edition and the English edition.

The Hobonichi Techo leather covers are made with all-natural materials that have their own unique appearance. Every leather cover is a one-of-a-kind, all-natural product, so you can feel good knowing your cover is the only one like it in the world. Here are some of the unique characteristics you can expect to find.

Simple yet stylish

The Taut series, with its straightforward cover design, is perfect for those who prefer using a leather cover for your techo to take good care of it but still want to make it as slim as possible. We use different leathers every year, and for the 2024 edition, we chose Bordeaux to make a red cover.

This leather is made from high-quality raw hides, tanned with 100% vegetable tannin. Once dyed in a Bordeaux color, it is layered with black coating and then polished to produce deep shading and uneven coloring.

You can tell from the touch of it that the surface of the leather is somewhat stiff and shiny. The gloss is produced by polishing, which gives the leather a profound finish, different from the shine added by ironing or lacquering.

With the simple and stylish Taut cover, you can fully enjoy the charm of mature Italian leather with depth and a subdued style.

Actual specifications may vary from listing: Each item is individually assembled and sewn by hand by a factory worker. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but there may be slight differences.
Leather may contain preexisting wrinkles and marks: In order to allow customers the enjoyment of all-natural leather, the leather is processed in a way that retains its original feel. This may leave imperfections visible on the surface of the cover, such as wrinkles, scratches, stains, or vein marks.
Depending on the conditions in which the cover is used, natural oils of the leather may emerge and appear as stains. We ask for your understanding for these naturally-occurring characteristics of genuine leather.
Leather coloring stains: Dyed leather products tend to leave stains. Please be careful not to allow the leather to adhere or rub against other objects such as clothing or other belongings, especially if the bag is wet from water or sweat from your hands.
Immediately dry if it gets wet: Immediately dab your product with a dry cloth if it gets wet. Avoid drying it with high temperatures, and place it in a well-ventilated place in the shade.
The cover does not shut tightly: The cover does not shut tightly while it is new, but it will wear in over time.
Not for use with Cover on Cover: The PVC plastic of the Cover on Cover contains plasticizer additives which may cause a reaction in the leather dye and affect the color and quality of the leather cover. Please refrain from using the Cover on Cover with this product.
Avoid storing in hot and humid places: Please avoid storing your product in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower quality and color stains.
Dark spots or spotted areas may be visible: During the leather drying process, particles floating in the air may adhere to the surface. Please understand this is an unavoidable part of the production process.
About the leather: Due to the characteristics of leather processing, you may see something resembling fine scratches on the surface. This will soften over continued use. There may also be large wrinkles due to variances in the softness of the leather. These are all due to individual differences across the leather.
