This simple six-sided pen is easy to hold and won’t roll across your desk when you set it down. The hard glass body makes it easy to use even for first-time glass-pen users.
Dip the nib into your ink of choice and tilt it slightly diagonally against the paper. This allows the ink to gradually drain from the pen tip where the ink had collected. Once you’re done writing, there’s no troublesome care needed—it’s easy to wash out the ink.
At 10 cm (about 4 inches) long, the body is slightly shorter than the average glass pen. That shorter length doesn’t just make the pen cuter—it also makes for a lighter pen with a more balanced center of gravity.
It also includes a Hobonichi Techo original item, a glass pen-rest formed in the calming shape of a water droplet.
The tip comes in two types: 01 (Slightly Fine) is somewhere between the standard glass-pen sizes of EF (extra-fine) and F (fine). This size is thin enough to write along the graph paper lines, so it’s perfect for people who would like to write in compact letters.
02N (Slightly Broad) is somewhere between the standard sizes of F (fine) and M (medium). The line width accommodates comfortable writing across the page. It pairs well with shimmering ink since it shows off the sparkle nicely. The bottom of the pen body of the 02N (Slightly Broad) has a frosted glass finish.
It may take a while for the ink to dry, so if you want to prevent smudging the excess ink with your hands or for the extra ink to stick on to other pages, the blotting paper is an useful item.
The glass pen comes packaged in its original Hobonichi packaging that contains a protective sponge insert. We recommend storing the pen in it when not in use. It also makes a great gift box.
The beautiful glass pen and lovely colored ink combine to offer a special experience in handwriting when writing or drawing in a letter or your techo. Glass pens have a different feel than ballpoint pens or fountain pens that you’ll surely enjoy. Feel free to use it with traditional ink, shimmering ink, and writing paper.
*Because each glass pen and pen rest is made individually at Studio Kasho, a glass studio in Fukui Prefecture, every item is unique. If your pen tip is damaged or worn out, it can be repaired for a fee.
1) Dip half of the pen tip vertically into ink and pull up straight.
2) Softly touch pen tip against edge of ink bottle to remove excess ink before writing.
3) Slightly tilt the pen and write slowly without applying strong pressure. Gradually rotate the pen as you write in order to use up all ink stored in the pen tip.
4) When you’re done using the pen, dip it in water to clean the ink out and dry it with a soft cloth before placing it back into storage. If the ink sticks to the inside of the pen tip, gently wash out the ink with lukewarm water.
