This fountain pen does not have a cap—instead, it’s a retractable pen that you can easily access with the touch of a button for a smooth writing experience.



This pen is by Pilot, a prolific fountain pen maker in Japan with over 100 years of history. The design of the pen appears modern at first glance, but it was actually first designed over fifty years ago. It was developed for more comfortable and active daily use, rather than a fountain pen that stays restricted to your desk. The technology used in this retractable fountain pen is the only of its kind in the world.



Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018, so at the time we created an original version of the pen called the Hobonichi Capless Fountain Pen.

We are relaunching the item to have more people use it, with a package in a more chic design.



This fountain pen is a subdued matte black. The body bears the phrase “Only is not lonely,” which has been the slogan of Hobonichi since its first issue.



The pen nib is made with 18 karat gold.

An airtight shutter mechanism prevents ink leakage and drying when the nib is retracted. The 30 g weight allows a stable and comfortable use, and we also recommend it for first-time fountain pen users. The unique mechanism that makes it look like a ballpoint pen is why it is so popular.



It comes in two types of nibs; the orthodox “F (Fine)” type, which is easy to use when writing your Hobonichi Techo, Hobonichi 5-Year Techo, letters or messages, and the “EF (Extra fine)” type, which is recommended for those who prefer writing more detailed characters, such as to fit the grid lines in the Hobonichi Techo.



The pen comes with a single cartridge of blue-black ink.
