This Weeks design is based on Shigesato Itoi's 1994 Super Nintendo game, MOTHER 2 (EarthBound in North America). It’s based on the group photos shown during the ending of MOTHER 2.
The cover has a smooth texture with a total of 25 photographs arranged across the design, which were taken by the Camera Man who suddenly appears in front of Ness and friends and takes their photo.
There’s the moment the main character Ness leaves the house to go on his adventure, and all the new places he explores alongside the friends he meets along the way. If you’ve played MOTHER 2, you’ll find photos filled with memories. These sepia-tone photos are printed within gold frames.
When you open this techo, you’ll see a custom endpaper exclusive to this design. It shows the elusive genius cameraman pointing his camera at you.
Look at the camera...
Ready...
Say, “fuzzy pickles.”
The ending credits for MOTHER 2 are more touching the more memories you’ve captured in photographs. This techo, too, will serve as a wonderful book of memories when you fill it with everyday things.
This techo comes with a Kraken Zip-up Bag based on one of the iconic boss characters in MOTHER 2. Now you can have this monster of the sea, feared by all sailors, swallow up the items you use frequently.
You can store sticky notes, lip balm, medicine, or other small items in this palm-sized clear case to stop them from scattering about in your bag. When you pull it out of your bag, feel free to use it and exclaim dramatically:
◆H...h...here it coooomes!
There are a total of 5 MOTHER collaboration covers in the 2025 Hobonichi Techo lineup. There’s an A6 and A5 cover with the “Ness’ Bike” design, an A6 and A5 size HON book with the “You come buying? You can sell, too.” design, and a Weeks book with the “Smiles & Tears” design.
The cover has been constructed as a light hardcover book with some give to it so it still bends.
When you order this Hobonichi Techo Weeks, you’ll receive a clear, adhesive corner pocket you can stick anywhere you like.
The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. This paper that underwent an overhaul with the 2024 edition techo is more resistant to bleed through, lighter despite being the same thickness, and has a smoother surface by adjusting the fibers of the paper.
The Weeks book has space for writing in plans or journal entries, and it also has 69 pages of grid paper memo pages in the back (73 pages in the English edition). The back of the book contains bonus pages, including Sample Symbols and Icons and Oodles of Noodles.
The Hobonichi Techo 2025 Weeks book comes in either English or Japanese. If you love this cover, then you can pick out which language you’d like in that book.
*The English edition book only comes as the January-start version.
If you’d like storage space or a way to change up the look of your Weeks book, you can customize your book by pairing it with a Weeks cover.

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.
The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.
The corners of the cover contain light traces of press marks, shines, and lumps. This is an unavoidable part of the manufacturing process.
The numbers of the year are stamped onto the cover in metallic or other colored leaf, so strong rubbing or everyday use may cause the numbers to peel off.
We do not recommend using this cover with the Cover on Cover since the PP coated surface of the cover has a tendency to stick to the soft PVC material used in the Cover on Cover under certain temperature and humidity levels.
Please avoid storing your product in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower quality and color stains.
If you’ve used any of these products, we welcome your notes on what you like about them or what led you to buy them so we can share it with customers who are currently considering these products. We’d also love to welcome comments from customers who purchased their techo outside the Hobonichi Store or received their book as a gift.
