This 160 page full-color book is the 2025 edition of the Hobonichi Techo Official Guidebook that introduces you to the new lineup as well as lots of fun usage examples.
Feature page: Everyone’s Hobonichi Techo
This year’s guidebook theme is “Everyone’s Hobonichi Techo.” There are a hundred ways for these hundred people to use their techos. We’ll be introducing the Hobonichi Techo of 100 people with usage examples such as increasing work efficiency, dieting, recording school life, parenting, health tracking, and other ways that people turn their techos into books that are uniquely them.
We also have usage examples of actor Mayu Matsuoka’s 5-Year Techo, manga artist Sensha Yoshida’s daily art journal showing the bento boxes he makes for his daughter, and pro wrestler Quiet Storm’s techo that support the 100 wrestling matches he takes part in every year.
Lots of ideas for you to try for journaling and drawing in your techo!
In addition to usage examples, the guidebook includes pages that address issues or concerns you may face when using your techo. Writer Fumitake Koga answers questions from users who journal in their Hobonichi Techo, and illustrator Junko Tsutsumi introduces icons people can copy and draw into their own techos. There are several articles you can read in order to get even more out of your Hobonichi Techo.
A comprehensive guide to the techo books and the 2025 product lineup catalog
The Hobonichi Techo books come in a wide variety of types. The Comprehensive Guide to the Techo books goes into detail about the features and contents of the books in addition to providing a comparison chart for things like usage purpose or how often it would be carried around. The Hobonichi Techo 2025 lineup of techo covers and HON and Weeks book designs is also included in the guidebook as a way to help you browse which cover and book you’ll spend the next year with.
Lots of fun articles to read!
There is also a wide range of interesting articles to read, some of which talk about printing out smartphone photos at a convenience store to paste into the techo, a behind-the-scenes look at the production of some of the techo covers, a look at how some of the techo team members use their own techos in an article called “Making the Hobonichi Techo,” an introduction to the newest Tools & Toys products, an interview with Shigesato Itoi in which he discusses the 2025 edition lineup theme of “Potential,” and more.
The front cover is illustrated by Wakaru
The front cover is designed by illustrator Wakaru and contains 100 human and animal characters on it. We commissioned Wakaru to illustrate something that shows everyone with their Hobonichi Techo while enjoying their everyday lives. You can see characters doing everything from writing in their techos to balancing it atop their heads. There are also two characters from the cover, Techo-kun and Techo-chan, who also make appearances throughout the book!
Some people are in their 24th year of using the Hobonichi Techo, while others will be using it for the first time, but everyone is the target audience for the Hobonichi Techo Official Guidebook 2025. This book aims to let everyone enjoy the techo to its fullest extent.
