End-Of-Order
When this embroidered jacket was created to celebrate the release of MOTHER 2 in 1994, it was only given to people who were involved with the development of the game.
Now we’ve brought it back in a reprint edition, developed with ANREALAGE, the brainchild of fashion designer Kunihiko Morinaga, and produced by TAILOR TOYO, who has made Japanese embroidered jackets for over 50 years.
Following the standard of most Japanese “sukajan” jackets, it’s reversible and covered on both sides with acetate material. The outside of the jacket is black and silver, with extensive embroidery on the back, while the reverse side is the deep red that symbolizes the MOTHER series. The colors of the jacket, the embroidery patterns, and the collar, hem, and sleeve cuffs are all faithful recreations of the original jacket from 1994.
The body and cut of the jacket itself are different this time around. The original jacket was filled with cotton batting, to give it volume and roundness, but to better complement today’s fashions the recreation is slimmer. Without the cotton, it’s now a great jacket for all seasons. The acetate material has a glossy, silk-like look, and drapes in a unique, appealing way.
We hope you can experience and wholeheartedly enjoy TAILOR TOYO’s incredible attention to detail yourself, right down the richly textured and three-dimensional embroidery.
There’s one more special feature we’d like to draw your attention to on this vintage-style jacket. The front zipper is a TAILOR TOYO original with TYE engraved on it, which stands for TOYO ENTERPRISE. The double-sided zipper has a pull on each side, a style often used in vintage embroidered jackets. A machine from 50 years ago was brought back into commission to create these zippers. It’s a very artisanal process, and while the end result may take time to adjust to if you’re used to the uniform, exact feel of modern zippers, we hope knowing about the labor and love that has gone into the creation of each jacket will help you enjoy yours.
As you see the colors of the acetate material and embroidery fade over time, you’ll be able to enjoy the same unique maturation that owners of vintage sukajan jackets have come to look for.

- Caution when using
- The reversible-design front zipper is difficult to zip. It is an original product from TAILOR TOYO with a vintage feel to it, created on a recommissioned machine from 50 years ago using the original hand-bending process. That can make it more difficult to zip and unzip than more uniform and precise modern zippers. Please keep this in mind.
- There is intricate embroidery on the delicate acetate fabric. Be careful not to catch it on fingernails, accessories, bags, belts, or anything else; pulling on the embroidery or rubbing against it can cause the threads to come loose or cause ripping and damage. Please handle with care.
- Due to the structure of the material, the inside of the jacket is easy to catch on with accessories or fingernails, so please be careful when taking the jacket on and off.
- Colors may stain or bleed. Colors may also fade when exposed to light, water, rain, sweat, or friction.
- Do not let the jacket remain wet if it’s exposed to water, rain, or sweat. If the jacket becomes wet, it may develop outlined stains. If this happens, please consult a dry cleaner and let them know it’s a water stain.
- The jacket may become discolored or faded when exposed to gas from a gasoline stove/heater or car exhaust. Do not store in a room or location where any gas or car exhaust may collect.
- Exposing the jacket to thinner, nail-polish remover, or other products that contain acetone may cause the material to melt or develop a hole, so please use caution.
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
- The material may stain other fabric if it rubs against it or comes into contact with it when damp, including other items of clothing you’re wearing alongside the jacket or bags you’re holding when wearing the jacket. We recommend you avoid wearing white or light-colored clothing with it.
- Care instructions
- Dry clean only. Do not machine-wash at home.
- Acetate material cannot be ironed if wrinkled. Cover a clothing steamer with a cloth and lightly apply it to the entire jacket—not only the wrinkled area. Applying the steamer too strongly may cause the material to become shiny.
- Do not steam the jacket collar or sleeve cuffs.
- Hanging the jacket on a hanger for extended periods of time can cause distortion in the fabric around the hanger, so please store folded up in a well-ventilated place.
- Caution when dry cleaning
- Confirm care instruction icons before cleaning.
- Treat with petroleum-based product for the shortest time possible and dry as soon as possible.
- Do not wash together with other items.
- Do not lay on top of other laundry articles when wet.
- Do not use bleach or detergents containing bleach.
- Be careful that the jacket does not catch on other items while cleaning.
- Place in a laundry net before cleaning.
- Please box-dry when dry cleaning the jacket.
- Other warnings
- Colors may vary depending on the device you use to view our product photos, so product colors may look slightly different in person.
