minä perhonen is a clothing brand that uses original, in-house fabrics created from artwork by designer Akira Minagawa. This Hobonichi Techo cover is created with one of minä perhonen’s trademark designs, "bird," which depicts a flock of migrating birds embroidered in bright colors onto linen fabric. The design demonstrates the way various personalities come together as one.
"bird" was first revealed in the minä perhonen lineup in 2000 and has grown to become a popular design used in clothing, bags, and other accessories. The background material and thread colors have been specially chosen for this year’s Hobonichi Techo cover.

First founded in 1995 under the name minä. Opened the first shop in Shirokanedai, Tokyo in 2000, and renamed the brand name to "minä perhonen" in 2003. Opened a total of 9 shops across Japan, with a new location in Daikanyama in April 2016, a new shop in the Spiral building in Aoyama, Tokyo in July 2016, and a location coming to Kanazawa this fall.

- All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances
Each and every cover is individually sewn by a factory worker hand-operating a sewing machine. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but there may be slight differences.
- No outer pocket
This cover does not contain an outer pocket.
- Sharp objects may unravel threads
Threads protrude from the material, so please be careful not to catch sharp items under them as they may unravel.
- Fabric may pucker around the edges of embroidery
The embroidered design on the cover is quite large, so the material may be slightly puckered, or wrinkled, around its edges.
- Interior of cover may be loose
The interior of the cover may not be perfectly taut due to limitations during the manufacturing process.
- Linen threads may have uneven thickness or naps
This cover is made with 100% linen, so the threads may naturally have uneven thickness or contain some naps/knots.
- Lace bookmarks may contain frays
The bookmarks of this cover use original mina perhonen lace straps. If you see any loose threads, we recommend refraining from pulling on it and instead tucking it between other woven threads.
- Pen holders are rigid at first
The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.
- Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder
Pens with rubber, non-slip grips may be difficult to slide into the pen holder.
- Maximum pen width of 13.5mm for pen holder
The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Japanese-version Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5mm (0.53”) in diameter.
- Inquiries about the minä perhonen collaboration covers
These Hobonichi Techo cover designs were directed by minä perhonen, but produced by Hobonichi. Inquiries about these covers cannot be answered at minä perhonen shop locations, so please contact the Hobonichi Store with any questions or concerns.
- Avoid using with Cover on Cover
This cover uses thicker materials than usual, so it may not fit. Forcing it into a Cover on Cover may damage the products.
- Color may vary slightly based on viewing screen
The color of the product may be slightly different in actuality than compared to how it appeared on a computer or smartphone screen.
