Taro OkamotoTower of the SunA6 Size (fits Hobonichi Planner and Hobonichi Techo Original)

This sparkling silver cover is unlike anything we've offered before. The rich black lines hot-stamped into the cover depict the "Black Sun" drawn on the back of the Tower of the Sun monument displayed at the Expo '70 held in Osaka in 1970. The expressionless face is surrounded by sharp flames jutting in all directions. This Black Sun faced the Festival Plaza at the expo as if diligently watching over everyone. In the same way, this cover seems to quietly and protectively watch over its user, almost as if it's saying something. It's a great companion to have by your side on a daily basis. The cover interior and bookmarks are also a deep black. The silver material of the cover is a grainy faux leather that's prone to faint marks from daily use, but we chose this material based on the deep sparkle that more than makes up for this flaw with incredible and unrivaled charm.

    "Tower of the Sun"
A 230-foot tall monument designed by Taro Okamoto and built for the Expo '70 in Osaka. The tip of the tower projected out of the futuristic-looking roof that housed it. Inside and below the tower was a gallery called the "Tree of Life," which represented the evolution of creatures. The monument almost looks like a primitive object that's always been there―a foreign presence towering over the bustling crowds in the otherwise futuristic pavilion.

Also available in the store is the "The Myth of Tomorrow" cover based on the mural painting by Taro Okamoto, offered in both the A6 Original/Planner size and the A5 Cousin size.

All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances

Each and every cover is individually sewn by a factory worker hand-operating a sewing machine. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but as these products are hand-made, covers are not made as exact copies.

      No outer pocket

This cover does not contain an outer pocket.

Pen holders are rigid at first

The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.

Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder

Pens with rubber, non-slip grips may be difficult to slide into the pen holder.

Maximum pen width of 13.5mm for pen holder

The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48") diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Japanese-version Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5mm (0.53") in diameter.

Not for use with Cover on Cover

The PVC plastic of the Cover on Cover contains plasticizer additives which may cause a reaction in the cover surface. The Cover on Cover plastic may adhere to the cover surface and result in color stains or damage. Please refrain from using the Cover on Cover with this product.

Do not press against other vinyl products

Please avoid storing this product atop other vinyl products, as the surface may adhere and cause color stains or damage.

Avoid contact with printed material such as newspapers

The laminate coating on this cover may become stained or imprinted if pressed against printed material such as newspapers or magazines.

Keep away from heat and hot items

This cover may become warped or damaged if touching hot items such as a hot coffee cup or placed near a heater. Please use caution.

Material may weaken over the years

Material may weaken and fade, and coating may begin to peel over several years of use.

      Material is easily damaged

Due to the nature of the cover material, the material is easily damaged. Even light fingernail scratches will leave a mark, so please keep the cover away from hard or sharp items.

      Fingerprints show easily

Fingerprints show easily on the silver exterior of the cover on the same way they would on aluminum foil or mirrors. If it becomes bothersome, gently wipe them away with a soft, dry cloth.

      Print may misalign with deboss

The "Black Sun" is printed into the debossing on the cover exterior by hand, so it may not perfectly align.
