Mother (EarthBound in North America) is a video game series created by Shigesato Itoi, and after years of successful Hobonichi Techo cover designs, the series makes its return to the lineup in 2018. This year’s Mother covers include This is Magicant, Weeks book Magicant Map, and this leather cover, Mr. Saturn (Ninja, Bird-Fishing, Ladder).
The color of the leather is deep red to mimic the Japanese packaging for the Mother games. Mr. Saturn, one of the most popular characters in the game, is imprinted into the leather on the front of the cover. The pocket on the other side of the cover contains five Mr. Saturns forming a ladder. On the corner of the cover is the game logo.
When you open the cover, you can find a Ninja Saturn hiding inside a pocket with his handkerchief over his face.
On the bottom right is the logo for Mother 2 and Mother 3. Look closely and you’ll see a balloon floating up from behind the ticket pocket. What could that possibly be…?

Just watching the Mr. Saturns on this cover makes it feel like they’re about to start talking to you in their silly language.
Included free with this cover is a Mr. Saturn notepad. The notepad is in the traditional Japanese vertical style, with a color Mr. Saturn on the cover and monochrome Mr. Saturn on the pages. Written in the corner is the phrase, “Write so many.”

- All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances
Each and every cover is individually sewn by a factory worker hand-operating a sewing machine. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but there may be slight differences.
- Immediately dry the product if it gets wet
Immediately dab the product with a dry cloth if it gets wet. Avoid
drying it with high temperatures, and place it in a well-ventilated
place in the shade.- Avoid storing in hot and humid places
Please avoid storing your cover in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower product quality and color stains. Please use caution when storing.
- Coloring may stain other objects
The dye in the cover may stain other objects if it rubs against or sticks to them, especially if the cover is wet from water or sweat from your hands. Please store with care.
- Pen holders are rigid at first
The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.
- Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder
Pens with rubber, non-slip grips may be difficult to slide into the pen holder.
- Maximum pen width of 13.5mm for pen holder
The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Japanese-version Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5mm (0.53”) in diameter.
- Avoid using with Cover on Cover
This cover uses thicker materials than usual, so it may not fit. Forcing it into a Cover on Cover may damage the products.
- Color may vary slightly based on viewing screen
The color of the product may be slightly different in actuality than compared to how it appeared on a computer or smartphone screen.
- Interior of cover may be loose
The interior of the cover may not be perfectly taut due to limitations during the manufacturing process.
