minä perhonen creates all-original textiles that are specially dyed, embroidered and woven to recreate designs that were originally hand-drawn.

This pattern, resembling fish scales as small arcs, is carefully embroidered in waves across the material. Look closely and you’ll see that every arc has a slightly unique curve, and the embroidery varies in thickness. The embroidery protrudes from the surface of the cover for a texture that’s nice to the touch. The chic, timeless color scheme of white and gray is a handsome fit for both men and women.

The textile’s base material, called “dop,” is a special cloth created specifically for making chairs and other furniture. By using the textile for long periods of time, the exterior gray surface will begin to wear thin, and the yellow-colored material beneath it will begin to show through. We chose this material for the cover because it matches perfectly with the long-term nature of the Hobonichi Techo.

The light blue faux leather cover interior is accented with yellow and pink-beige dotted lace bookmarks. minä perhonen’s trademark butterfly symbol is included on a tag in the cover.

The zipper pull is made with natural leather so it can deepen in color over continued use. The pull is accented with a butterfly-shaped clasp.

About minä perhonen

minä perhonen is a fashion brand created by desinger Akira Minagawa.
First founded in 1995 under the name minä. Opened the first shop in Shirokanedai, Tokyo in 2000, and renamed the brand name to "minä perhonen" in 2003.
In Finnish, “minä” means“I,” and “perhonen”means“butterfly,”expressing Minagawa’s hopes to create designs as light-hearted and beautiful as the flapping wings of a butterfly.
Opened a total of 9 shops across Japan. In 2016, opened new locations in Daikanyama, in the Spiralbuilding in Aoyama,Tokyo,and in Kanazawa.

All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances: Each and every cover is individually sewn by a factory worker hand-operating a sewing machine. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but there may be slight differences.
No outer pocket: This cover does not contain an outer pocket.
Sharp objects may unravel threads: Threads protrude from the material, so please be careful not to catch sharp items under them as they may unravel.
Fabric may pucker around the edges of embroidery: The embroidered design on the cover is quite large, so the material may be slightly puckered, or wrinkled, around its edges.
Threads may protrude from embroidered area: Please note that embroidered areas may contain threads that protrude from the design.
Embroidered designs may be slightly distorted: Due to the varied thickness of the material, embroidered designs may appear slightly bent.
Interior of cover may be loose: The interior of the cover may not be perfectly taut due to limitations during the manufacturing process.
Pen holders are rigid at first: The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.
Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder: Pens with rubber, non-slip grips may be difficult to slide into the pen holder.
Maximum pen width of 13.5mm for pen holder: The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Japanese-version Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5mm (0.53”) in diameter.
Overstuffing the cover may result in tearing or damage: This cover is designed to store tools, documents, and other stationery together with the planner book. Attempts to close the cover when it contains too many items may damage the material. Please avoid storing more than the cover can hold.
Inquiries about the minä perhonen collaboration covers: These Hobonichi Techo cover designs were directed by minä perhonen, but produced by Hobonichi. Inquiries about these covers cannot be answered at minä perhonen shop locations, so please contact the Hobonichi Store with any questions or concerns.
Color may vary slightly based on viewing screen: The color of the product may be slightly different in actuality than compared to how it appeared on a computer or smartphone screen.
